Baby Maverick

This blog was created to keep family and friends updated on what's going on with the pregnancy, birth, and surgical plan for Maverick. We'll also be able to keep everyone updated during his surgery and recovery and hopefully be able to show you some cute pictures of him, Maddie, Carter and Chloe along the way.

This was the original intent; however, when we started this blog we had no idea the twists and turns our lives would take. Our sweet baby Maverick was born September 12, 2008 with Transposition of the Great Arteries, ASD, and VSD. We expected to have a baby boy to bring home three to four weeks after his surgery. He had numerous complications after his arterial switch and fought through many that would have taken the life from an adult. He passed away February 24, 2009 - without ever coming home.

This blog is now a place I share my feelings, work through the grief, remember Maverick, and try to make sense out of our life without him. I hope in doing so I am giving a name and a face to babies everywhere born with congenital heart defects.

Snug as a _______ in a rug

Somehow Chloe and Carter end up sleeping together. Maddie likes her own space. They love doing "snug as a bug" before bed, but somehow we ended up changing it to whatever the kid wants to be that night. Tonight, Chloe was a ballerina in a rug and Carter was a stuntman in a rug. I just realized as I was looking at them that I have never taken a picture of them like that, and its one of their favorite bedtime rituals. My little Chloe is on her second night of big girl panties to bed. I've heard before that you always remember the firsts, but never the lasts - last time they slept in your bed, last time they wanted you to carry them, etc. So I'm paying a little bit better attention. Mav taught me to enjoy every moment as it happens. That's about all we have control over.

Love seeing the pics of Maddie, Carter and Chloe. What beautiful children with wonderful smiles. Even though I've never met them, there personalities just pop in the pics. I want to give them all big hugs...and you some too. :)

Love,

Sherry

What an adorable picture!! You definitely have some cute kids! I am praying for all of you daily. I am really hoping for an excellent turnout for your blood drive today. If I lived closer, I would definitely donate. My son is having open heart surgery on March 24th and I may donate for him. The surgeon seemed to discourage it, but we're the same blood type. Don't quite get that, but OK. Thinking about you. God bless!

Carter has a look in his eyes with that amazing smile that can just make your heart melt. Of course Maddie's face is just a smile a minute. It has been such a blessing see those babies each day and know they are making it with the love and care of you and Greg. Losing loved ones at a young age is very stressful and your kids are so blessed to have you there for them. I was lucky my mom allowed us to talk about my daddy and relive happy times...and know that I will never forget him. Mav is so lucky to have you all to let him live on each day in you hearts and thoughts:)
