Baby Maverick

This blog was created to keep family and friends updated on what's going on with the pregnancy, birth, and surgical plan for Maverick. We'll also be able to keep everyone updated during his surgery and recovery and hopefully be able to show you some cute pictures of him, Maddie, Carter and Chloe along the way.

This was the original intent; however, when we started this blog we had no idea the twists and turns our lives would take. Our sweet baby Maverick was born September 12, 2008 with Transposition of the Great Arteries, ASD, and VSD. We expected to have a baby boy to bring home three to four weeks after his surgery. He had numerous complications after his arterial switch and fought through many that would have taken the life from an adult. He passed away February 24, 2009 - without ever coming home.

This blog is now a place I share my feelings, work through the grief, remember Maverick, and try to make sense out of our life without him. I hope in doing so I am giving a name and a face to babies everywhere born with congenital heart defects.

good night

Well, it's 10:00pm. Maverick is hanging in there. They have changed his blood gases from every 4 hours to every 6 hours since they are getting more stable. He is still having good urine output and his chest tube drainage has decreased alot. Dr. Mendeloff didn't have to open the membrane to check for bleeders. He's still getting a lot of blood and blood products, but everyone assures me this is fine. He's getting alot more swollen, but this is also to be expected after heart surgery. It's been a pretty encouraging day. The surgeon says he is doing well and they'll get a heart echo on Thursday to check his cardiac function and see if he's ready to wean off the pump. Thank you all so much for your comments, thoughts and prayers. Sorry I'm not answering each one, but know I 'm reading them and I appreciate each one of you. God has blessed us through all of this with the amazing support of our wonderful family and friends and the excellent care Maverick and I have received here. Thanks to all. Hopefully we'll have a good night. We're going to try to get some rest. Love you all - jc

I have prayed all day, Juli and Greg. My little Hannah Belle sucks her tongue and always has. Reading that Maverick was doing that made me smile...So very precious. I pray that you are asleep now and that you will have a restful night. I also pray for the nurse that is with him now...may he/she be watchful, alert and in tune with baby Maverick. God is good. Love you guys, Amanda

Julie & Greg-

We are praying for you and little Maverick. Our girls have been praying too. Yesterday Darcy (our 4year old) and I sat down on the bed to pray. When we finished she said, "That was good, mommy." Shelby's been telling me when she gets home from school that she prayed for him at school too. I know the Lord will continue to give you strength and peace to make it through each day. Let us know if we can do anything to help with your 3 here. My cell is 556-1722.

Oh, what an encouraging day! I hope that today proves to be even better. I pray that with every hour Maverick's body heals and gains strength to stand alone. I pray that you get rest for your own recovering body and peace in your spirit. I love you, dear friend. Kristi

Dear Julie and Greg,

We are all rejoicing with you in God's miracle of baby Maverick! We will pray that,
- baby Mavericks swelling will go down rapidly
- that his heart will be perfectly repaired
- that he will be protected from infections while he heals
- that Julie will get the important rest she needs physically and mentally to prepare for her surgery next month
- that the peace of the Lord will be with your family throughout this difficult time
- that Greg's back will be healed

in Jeremiah somewhere it says "Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all FLESH (emphasis mine), is anything to hard for me?"

Love and prayers,

Uncle Dan
